Quick and easy meal that is high in protein, Omega 3-6-9 and B12 !
Haricot Beans (any bean will do)
Alpro Go On yoghurt (plain)
Shelled Hemp (Linwoods)
Engevita Yeast Flakes
Salt and Pepper
Favourite Bread (we used Bagels and Burgen bread)
Mix the beans and sweetcorn with 2 – 3 tbs of Alpro go on yoghurt, 1 tbs of hemp and 1 tbs of Engevita flakes. Season with salt and pepper or anything you like. Toast your favourite bread and voilá…you have a high protein full of nutrients alternative to baked beans on toast.
A little information on some of the foods I used:
Engevita Nutritional Yeast: the perfect source of B12 for vegans.
Nutritional yeast is not the same as brewers yeast, they are from differing strains of yeast. Nutritional yeast is deactivated yeast and is a great source of nutrition, it is a complete protein and is particularly rich in the B vitamins. It is naturally low in sodium. It can be used by everyone to add a cheese like flavour to cooking or as a condiment. I add it to all my savoury dishes.
Alpro GO ON: my all new favourite Alpro product is the Go On plain yoghurt! It’s the new plant-based alternative to strained yogurt. With a smooth texture and mild taste, it’s perfect for creating tasty dips, stirring into curries and stews or mashed with avocado on top of toast. It’s so smooth and rich that I have to put it into everything from smoothies to savoury food. Its high in soya protein and just so versatile. 100% plant power!
Soya & Linseed Burgen Bread: Packed with great tasting natural seeds and grains, Burgen Soya & Linseed is rich in fibre and calcium, and with all those linseeds it is also a great source of essential plant-based Omega 3 alpha linolenic acid. Calcium helps to keep bones healthy, while Omega 3 alpha linolenic acid helps to maintain healthy levels of cholesterol. Just two slices of Soya & Linseed 800g provide 30% of the RI+ of calcium and 100% of the Recommended Daily Intake for Omega 3. Not bad for “just” a bread!
Hemp seeds: They are up there with the most nutritious seeds in the world. Hemp Seeds are a complete protein. They have a concentrated balance of proteins, essential fats, vitamins and enzymes. Hemp Seeds are one of nature’s perfect foods and the easiest way to enrich any food.
